Camping Rio Ara

Close to Torla via a rough path up and very quiet at night. Close to the path into the Torla valley and also the bus stop if required. It was a bit of a climb up/ down into the river valley to get to and from the site. Luckily we didn't meet another motorhome coming the other way. The owners are very friendly, although neither spoke a word of English, we managed to get through to each other. As it was late in the season, only one of the facilities blocks was open, which meant a long walk from our pitch, but probably contributed to the peace and quiet. I recommend.

Amazing campsite. Small plots and quite closely spaced, but good atmosphere. Lots of Spanish families, so expect activity until 23:00 at least (when the little kids finally start going to bed). Not the type of campsite to hang around during the day, but perfect for going on hikes. Amazing views from the camping and great access to trails in the area. Short climb on a stone path to Torla. Swimming spots close by. Super friendly staff, nice camping shop (cheaper than Torla!) and a terrace for a beer or sangria. Facilities are amazing; never seen cleaner toilets and showers. The showers are warm and there is good pressure. We were worried about taking our caravan back up the very steep hill but the staff offers taking it up for you with a 4x4 which is great.

I would guess it is a lovely campsite. The location is superb, the environment awesome. However, we could not enjoy the scenery. I mailed in the morning with a booking request, and I got a prompt answer that during the high season they do not make bookings. They said to just show up, and if we arrive before 17.00 there would be places available. All said and done, we were on our way. After a long and challenging drive we arrived at 15.00, only to be let down mediately. The camping was completely full. All the other campsites in the neighborhood were full as well, but because they told us that if we arrive before 17.00 we could stay, we made the drive over. During the high season, it is clearly a sellers market, with way more people looking for a place to stay than spots available. I don't blame the fact that there was no place available. I also don't blame the fact that don't take reservations - it's not nice, but okay... I blame the fact that I asked whether they had a spot, and they said yes, when (...)
